                             ORDINANCE NO.   10109 
        
        
                   AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 6958, AS
                   AMENDED, KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE, SO AS
                   TO AMEND THE DEFINITION OF PARKING SPACE.

              	   BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
         CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That Ordinance No. 6958, as amended, 
the
         Zoning Ordinance, be and the same is hereby amended so as to
         incorporate standards for handicapped parking space 
requirements
         as follows:
        
              	   SECTION 1.	  That Article II, Section 100 (67) be
         amended to delete in its entirety and substitute in lieu 
thereof
         the following:
            
                       
                   (67)	Parking Space:  A space not less than
                        nine (9) feet by nineteen (19) feet long
                        per vehicle as determined by the City
                        Traffic Engineer plus all necessary
                        additional space needed for vehicular
                        access thereto.
                  
                   	For parking structures, a space not less
                        than eight and one-half (8 1/2) feet wide
                        is acceptable.
                  
                   	For parallel parking, a space shall be
                        not less than eight (8) feet wide by
                        twenty-four (24) feet long.
                  
                   	For handicapped parking:  A space not
                        less than eight (8) feet wide by nineteen
                        (19) feet long with an adjacent access
                        aisle not less than five (5) feet wide. 
                        Two handicapped parking spaces may share
                        a common access aisle.  Where designated,
                        van accessible handicapped parking spaces
                        shall have an adjacent access aisle not
                        less than eight (8) feet wide.  All signs
                        and pavement markings for handicapped
                        parking shall conform to City Traffic
                        engineering Drawing No. A5-H7. 
                        Handicapped parking as required by T.C.A.
                        and the Chattanooga Building code shall
                        meet the current ADA standards.
                  
         	  
         	   SECTION 2.	  BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that this
         Ordinance shall take effect two weeks from and after its 
passage
         as required by law.
